Kalea Delgado Ms. Lehmann English 1-3 15 March 2019 Response to As You Like It
Recently, Shakespearience performed a play called As You Like It by William Shakespeare. This play was originally written around 500 years ago, but Shakespearience set this play in the 1980’s. The costumes that Shakespearience used for the play really reminded me of the 80’s. They had bright, patterned clothing that screamed 80’s. Something that I didn’t like about the costumes was that they were all pretty similar. Sometimes it was hard to figure out which character the actors were playing because they played multiple characters, and most of the costumes were somehow alike. The set was simple, but it also made me focus on the characters more. Since the set was simple, it didn’t really remind me of the 80’s. These actors put in a lot of time and effort into their plays, and it really pays off. My favorite character was probably Rosalind because her character is smart and thinks outside of the box. My favorite moment of the play was when the bell rang and they acted like they could hear the bell clear from the forest. Everyone improvised, and it made the play just that much better. When I first thought of the play being set in the 80’s, I didn’t know what to expect. Then they started acting, and it was interesting to watch. It was funny because the words and the set didn’t match. The theme was spot on with the 80’s. Overall, the play was good and exciting. I hope they come back next year. The costumes and set were amazing and really reminded me of the 80’s. The acting was great, especially when they did the fake fights because it looked real. The theme fit with the 80’s, and the costumes, set, and music worked really well.
